biblewise

Hello,

I was talking to my friend the other day about something or the other and somewhere along the line, while describing a problem he was facing, he told me that the devil was really messing with him. I remember being so confused by the statement that I couldn’t simply gloss over it. So, I asked: “What does the devil have to do with this ?”

Fast forward an hour later and we found ourselves caught in the middle of an “aggressive discussion” on the concept of “the devil” or “Satan.” It struck me as odd that we both used the Bible as a reference during the discussion, but our perspectives on the matter were quite different. I grew up a Catholic, so I was taught about Satan and his characteristics. And for the most part I think most people are like me, in that they just naturally assumed that the concept of Satan, and all the conventional rules by which he operates, is described on some level in the Bible. So, not being afraid of winning an argument with logic and reason, I came to the conclusion that I would research this myself; direct to source, no intermediary.

With that decision made, it was now time to get the Bible. Halfway to the family room to grab one from the bookshelf I recalled that it was now 2022 and that technology was here to make the world better; therefore, there must be a more technological way to read the Bible. Out came my tablet, followed by Chrome, and finally a well-known Bible website to start my research.

A few days later I came to the following conclusions: One, there is far less of a concrete definition of Satan in the Bible than what is projected from the general religious social context. And two, while great strides have been made in the realm of reading the bible, there was essentially no modern tool for researching the bible generally available to the masses.

So, I built Biblewise.
